The BRDS application supports the creation of a field guide for the species of interest to the project (portal in BRDS terminology). This includes the ability to create a species profile (which we can hopefully use the eProfiles tool to support for BioCollect) as well as the ability to assign species into groups.
These groups are used mainly to allow the field guide to be navigated, but are also used as a facet to narrow down record queries. This is useful for BioBlitz style projects in particular.
One option would be to nominate a column in the survey species list as containing the "group" for a particular species. Another would be to nominate one species list per "group".
In some portals, the groups are used differently. See #68 for a brief discussion of this.
