If a data model item has a dependency on another data model item (e.g. a behaviour or computed), all dependencies must appear in the data model before the dependent value.
If this doesn't happen, knockout will evaluate the dependent value before the dependency exists, which results in the dependency not being observed, so when it changes the computed value or behaviour will not re-execute.
