In the ENCORE Nature Communications paper, we describe the link with FAIR research data management. However, this is not made explicit in ENCORE. For example, if a pre-processing step is part of the workflow (e.g., we have the code in \Processing) then the description of the pre-processing steps can serve as input for the meta-data of the resulting pre-processed data (which may get submitted to a public database). Similarly, a more standardized (and machine readable) description of the meta data in ENCORE (i.e., \data\NameOfDataset_1\meta may provide advantages to setup the correct computations. |

There remains discussion about the difference between raw, meta, and preprocessed data in \data\NameOfDataset_1. This has to be more clearly defined. |

Computational projects may require information about the experiment. This may include sample annotation, experimental platform and protocols, etc. In addition, an adequate description of the data (e.g., variables in spreadsheet) is required. In general it is not the task of the computational scientist to gather such meta-data and descriptions. However, it would be helpful to provide guidelines to the wet-lab as to what to provide. Such guidelines can be included in the \Data directory such that every ENCORE user can provide this to the experimentalist.
