Instrument Demo Feedback April 2021

David Keymer edited this page Apr 22, 2021 · 13 revisions

Following release 7.4.0. Demos were only given to those instruments that had the release.

Crystallography, Excitations, and Molecular Spectroscopy

Present: IMAT (WK, AF, GB) and Exp Controls (FA, DK, CMS)

  • Highlighted and demoed new features of interest, right click block add from OPI was of great interest
  • CMS will follow up on TopCat data archiving issue and zip files as these don't always get ingested

SANS

Present: Larmor (GS, DH, RD), LOQ (SK), ZOOM (DAV, JD), SANS2D (SR, NM, LC) and Exp Controls (DO, SJ)

New SANS sample changer was demoed see ticket. Feedback was generally positive. There was a couple of additional requests:

  • Be able to set x/y positions in the OPI see ticket
  • RD highlighted to make sure that when it was deployed to LARMOR any PVs in the synoptic were still correctly connected - ticket

Release notes for 7.4.0, 7.3.0, 7.2.1 and 7.2.0 were shown, with a number of features highlighted. They produced a couple of requests:

  • RD asked us to check if the scan library worked with simulation mode ticket
  • SR asked if we can make sure the SANS2D guides are referred to as guides and not waveguides throughout IBEX ticket

Further discussion

  • There were various discussions on how arrays are handled by IBEX. ticket has been created to nail down requirements for this
  • DAV asked if the HTS magnet will be ready for ZOOM. Assured him that testing on POLREF was going well and that the IOC should work for both instruments
  • SANS group are interested in the script generator

Reflectometry

Muons

Present: EMU (AH, KY, SC) and Exp control (JH, JK)

  • Background plot fixes were demoed
  • Danfysik slew rate was Demoed - a ticket with several requested changes came out out of this, such as OPI changes (#6416)
  • Went through release notes from 7.2.0 to 7.4.0 - they had a look beforehand and weren't happy they couldn't easily find what things would affect their instrument. A ticket for discussing this has been created (#6419)
  • Script generator was also demoed:
  • they would like to be able estimate based on count rate but there is a ticket for this already (#6382)
  • either everything should be called "line" or "action" but the column name should match up with the buttons (#6434)

Further discussion

  • EMU were not happy about us removing the ICE fridge IOC from their instrument
  • the ICE fridge device screen remained so #6418 and #6417 were created to delete it from any other instruments and also to include device screens in the configchecker tests
  • EMU were uncertain about the zero field system changes as they were not detailed in the release notes - we said to them that the same defaults were used so functionality would not change

Support Groups

Present: AC, JN, AB, ??, ?? ; ExptCtrls: DO, DK

Release notes for 7.4.0, 7.3.0 and 7.2.0 were shown, highlighting features relevant to those present. Log plotting bug-fix, server status, "adding block from OPI" demonstrated. No questions relating to IBEX were asked.

Updates from attendees:

AC:

  • HTS magnet system currently on POLREF has a KEPCO PSU stuck in remote mode. Asked whether or not this has been fixed. DO assured in progress.

JN:

  • SMC100 will be used on POLREF this cycle.
  • MERLIN's sample-changer will be used on LET this cycle.
  • Pressure & Furnace section have ordered ~30 Chell CCD100 devices with "serial over USB-C" connectors. JN wiring them, but suggested we contact CG for further information.
  • Asked about our work on FMR system. Wondered whether we'd written drivers for specific items of equipment. DK explained that GS's LabVIEW control program had been wrapped with EPICS IOC (with future migrations in mind) so control computer can communicate with it across network.
  • LARMOR and POLREF bumpstrip readback via Galil DIO not working at present. Asked that we remove functionality from IBEX until fixed.
  • Requested access to RIKENFE machine to enable testing of magnet PSU interlocks.
