Create a Closed Mesh by Extruding in Both Directions

Hello,

I am creating an open mesh by extruding as shown below.

def extrudeMesh(mesh, vector, length=100):
    vector = vector/np.linalg.norm(vector)
    newfaceBit = mrmeshpy.FaceBitSet()
    newfaceBit.resize(mesh.topology.getValidFaces().size(), True)

    mrmeshpy.makeDegenerateBandAroundRegion(mesh, newfaceBit)
    vertsForMove = mrmeshpy.getIncidentVerts(mesh.topology, newfaceBit)

    for v in range(vertsForMove.size()):
        if vertsForMove.test(mrmeshpy.VertId(v)):
            mesh.points.vec[v] -= mrmeshpy.Vector3f(vector[0], vector[1], vector[2])*length

    mesh.invalidateCaches()
    mesh.packOptimally()
    return mesh

What I want is to also extrude in the opposite direction of the input vector to create a closed mesh.

Could you provide me with the code to add?

Hi Grantim,

As shown in the picture, this is a surface mesh. The code above allows you to select the entire mesh and extrude it in a specific direction. What I want to do is extrude it in the opposite direction as well to create a closed mesh.

You can try using addBaseToPlanarMesh function for it (but make sure to orient mesh in XY plane), or you can call fillHole after extruding
