  • Two options

    • Automatically analyse the input image to try to estimate how bad it is and apply "standard" corrections
    • Allow the user to "play" with different improvement options

  • Imagemagick appears to be the Swiss-army knife needed to improve the images

    • See http://www.imagemagick.org/discourse-server/viewtopic.php?t=29407 for a discussion on image improvement
    • To deskew the page
      • convert ART.jpg -deskew 80% ART_deskew.jpg
    • To remove vertical line thata re introduced by a bad scanner
      • convert ART.jpg -negate -define morphology:compose=darken -morphology Thinning Rectangle:1x30+0+0 -negate ART_noline.jpeg

  • look into unpaper as an option for improving the image
