Upscribe : Transcribe 2.0.

  • With enough eyes, everyone can read.

What it is ?

  • A collaborative web-tool that facilitates the transformation of printed documents (graphics/pdf) to epub format, the standard for electronic books.

  • Why transformation ?

    • Because so much existing material is not accessible for the print-challenged.
      • By print-challenged we mean those who are unable to read, or have difficulty reading, printed materials, (Low-vision / Learning disabilities e.g. dyslexia / Neuro-motor )
      • Because the world is going digital but there is a risk that so much existing material gets left behind
  • Why a collaborative webtool ?

    • Because this is for everybody, everyone can benfit , everyone can contribute.
    • Crowd-sourcing the transcription of large documents allows them to be upscribed, and shared, quickly.
  • Why epub ?

    • Because epub, actually epub3, is the standard for e-books and is compatible with all modern e-book readers
    • Because epub is html so once we're in epub format, it's trivial to publish in any web-browser
    • Because epub3 allows adding an audio layer so that, whazam, every document that is upscribed is instantly available in audio
