During linking an explicit option "-O0" was needed to avoid a segfault in the multi-file optimizer.
When the test suites were run the first time, several sims would crash due to an FPE. This would happen completely at random. Analysis of the problem showed that two routines were compiled in such a way that uninitialized data would be loaded into FP registers from the stack. This can lead to a spurious FPE if by chance the bitpattern of an invalid number would be present in that location. The problem was solved by disabling optimization for those two routines. This is implemented in r2246.
