Extra bullet points being added to pages

Many pages have this problem because it affects the header and "on this page" navigation pane, but some examples include:

• https://docs.crossplane.io/v1.19/software
• https://docs.crossplane.io/v1.19/software/install/

What's Wrong?

The header navigation items each have a bullet point rendering in front of them that looks very out of place and even clips some of the items:

The "on this page" navigation pane is adding double bullet points for nested entries:

Some pages, like https://docs.crossplane.io/v1.19/software, have blank items with a bullet point in the "on this page" navigation pane:

I'm not sure where they are coming from, but they look weird 👽

Looks like it happens only in dark mode. I can reproduce it on my side

Default mode is good

Switching to dark mode immediately leads to out of place bulletpoints

looking really closely (and zooming in), I think light mode is also affected actually! it's just that the bullet points in the header are black so you can't see them on the black header background, except for where one of them clips the GitHub icon:

And light mode definitely has the double bullet points in the "on this page" nav pane too. I don't think those are intentional 🤔

This sounds like either a weird thing in the CSS or some Hugo rendering thingy. I'll try and take a look by the end of the week if someone else doesn't beat me to it

I think there's a weird netlify build cache problem.

I did a "clear cache and redeploy" for the current master branch and it looks fixed to me (please fact check)

I couldn't repo it locally but looking through old MRs I see a mix of working and non-working:

broken 868, deployed Feb 2
working 864 deployed Jan 31
broken 863 deployed Jan 29

It looks like a different CSS class is being applied to the lists in the working v broken case, specifically the .nvabar-nav is getting a different list-style.

At this point I don't know where it's coming from.

Hugo does some CSS optimization magic but it's weird for it to just change out of nowhere unless some underlying NPM dependency changed things.

It's going to take a little trial and error to try and identify the root cause 🕵
