An option to limit the Microphone Volume Gate, for example -6DB
Which would only activate the microphone if the Gate is reached.
Why would you like to do it?
Many of my friends do not have any systemwide noise filtering and have a lot of background noise and other noises that make the experience very unpleasable.
How would you like to achieve it?
In the settings, either Element or Element Call directly, a toggle with a slider that can be set to a decibel value, preferable with a volume preview.
Have you considered any alternatives?
Yes, on Linux Pipewire with RNoise and on Windows there is Equalizer APO.
Unfortunately, this is not possible for many non Power users.

Just commenting to add I came here to open this issue, and see #2769 and this one. My friend group is evaluating new chat options to move to when Discord goes public, and I personally would like to see us move to the Matrix network. I know I'm only 1 person, and I don't mean this as a threat, but I do think the current state of background noise would be enough to get them to want to try another platform.
Otherwise, Element checks all my boxes and I'd love to get my friends over to it! :)
