I saw #2099 but I am not sure if this is the same issue, so I am filing it separately. If it is a duplicate, please do close.

Steps to reproduce

I recently installed Electron Desktop, intending to replace the https://app.element.io browser client.

I logged into my account. This account is in some rooms where I have silenced some notifications, per this screenshot: Image

Outcome

What did you expect?

I do not receive desktop notifications from these rooms except for the selected "mentions and keywords".

What happened instead?

I receive desktop notifications for other events in these rooms such as "user entered room" and "user set a profile picture"—per this screenshot:
Image

Operating system

Ubuntu 24.10

Application version

element-desktop 1.11.91

How did you install the app?

.deb / apt per instructions at https://element.io/download

Homeserver

matrix.org

Will you send logs?

Yes —immediately after the next time I see such a notification.

Did you ever enable the Notifications Beta? Doing so creates notifications for state events which disabling the labs flag does not undo (as notifications are an account-wide server-side enforced thing)

In Settings: Labs under "Notification Settings (Beta)" I see a button "Leave the beta"—so, yes, I guess I must have done so, though I don't recall when.

By "disabling the labs flag does not undo" mean that even if I hit this button, it will not resolve the issue?

When you enable the Beta it prompts you to reset your notifications, this is an account-wide thing given notifications (push rules) are account-wide.

Labs/Beta enablement is not account-wide. To fix this you need to enable the beta and turn off the flag which says to get notifications for events like this.

Okay, thank you for the clarification! I have followed the instructions in your latest message. If the notifications appear to stop I will come back and close this issue later today.
