Your use case
What would you like to do?
On the desktop client, I would like for there to be a notification in the middle of the screen when one is being called, à la how Skype used to do it for example.
Why would you like to do it?
I was hoping to transition older family members to using a self-hosted Matrix server with Element Desktop since Skype has ceased functioning; however, call notifications on Windows 10 only pop up in the corner and then go away after a few seconds, which my older relatives struggle to notice, as it takes them some time to hear that there's a call and get to the computer, and not having an immediately obvious way to enter the call is likely to lead to confusion and missing calls. For my own usage, it is somewhat annoying to have to open the program from the taskbar to accept the call after the notification has gone away.
How would you like to achieve it?
The notification should stay on screen until the call stops ringing, with buttons to accept and decline (and potentially accept with camera on, as that seems to be common on other platforms). Accepting would bring the program up on the call screen.
Have you considered any alternatives?
I have tried other software, but none seem to work as well as Matrix with Element and I would rather not have to use Microsoft Teams for family communication.
Additional context
#2244, #887 and #761 address some individual aspects of this, but I wanted to unify the requests into a single issue. Hopefully this can get some more attention soon, I and perhaps others switching from Skype would like to be able to easily video call our older relatives again.
