Linux, can't save WhatsApp documents

Expected Behavior

'Save attachement' saves.

Actual Behavior

When I go to save a pdf (not sure about other filetypes) in WhatsApp, is shows folders, I choose a folder hit save and it didn't save the attachment.

Steps to reproduce

Go to whatsapp
click on doc
click on save

Additional information

I noticed there were problems saving in Hangouts/Google Chat but that MIGHT have been resolved. It was missing the extension type on the name when savings in hangouts/chat (can't remember which one).
