Return 400 or 404?

Because now we use JSONError for error messages, then the error message will be correctly displayed on the UI

But yeah whatever. Good for UI display.

I added JSONErrorNotFound in 8012a7e , I think it will be useful in the future.

And frontend code works with any 40x code:

Personally I think (usually) no, because it is a feature-like change (a lot of code changes).

But if many users & contributors & maintainers would like to backport, we could try. So it depends IMO.
