Introduction and the Process

Princess has been making fun of me for continually delaying the development of the bus project. I know, trust me.

I wanted to briefly talk about what we're exactly doing, along with if you are still interested in participating in the project. If anyone reading wants to join in on this project, do let me know. :] Now, onto the descriptions.

The bus project is a concept that aims to remove the inconveniences of finding your bus and making it on time before it leaves. It will do this by providing a mobile app to students that will provide information on the whereabouts of their bus on that day, along with push notifications to notify students on the spot when their bus is here. School staff will be able to control this information to keep it updated and accurate as they take attendance on the busses.

Our job is to create that mobile space in an organized and neat fashion to make it accessible to all users. Each of our roles will have separate responsibilities, however, one thing remains in common: to work together diligently.

All of you are driven individuals who want to help this cause. My aim is to not get it done as fast as possible, but rather, to provide an educational and thought-provoking experience to the real-life applications of working on a coding project with real consequences. I'm very glad that I get to do this with you select few, and I'm excited to (finally) start this.

Starting Today

We will be starting by familiarizing ourselves with the project concept and what we envision it to be. I want all of your feedback and ideas to ensure that everyone has a say in what the direction of this project comes to be. Ask any questions, concerns, or make any comments on what features this project should have. I believe Rishi P. mentioned that this tool could be expanded into a wider application at Cypress- things like that could be mentioned and elaborated on.

After that, we'll start talking about the specific technologies and routines that we'll be doing to make progress on this project. Some of you will not be as prepared, so it is in my best interest to help you learn all and any concepts that will help you understand your environment.

For those who want to get started early, here are some ideas that I thought of:

• It is most likely the case that we'll be using the Kotlin programming language to develop our mobile apps, as it has lots of learning resources and is relatively simple to pick up.
• Kotlin is also a generally great language, so we could write our backend servers in Kotlin as well, however, I'm interested in what you all have in mind. Doing it in Kotlin will make it so that we all only have to learn one language, but if you would prefer trying another language, like Java, Python, or Lua/Luau, please provide your input.
• We'll also be making a simple website. Frontend Development will include the making of this website first, then the mobile app. We'll be using JavaScript with Svelte to make this happen. However, there is a way to make it in Kotlin as well, if you are interested.
• UI/UX designers will be using Figma or Canva to create mockups of what the colorful version of the user interfaces. It is recommended to start looking up how other apps are designed, both in user experience and in looks.
• The Product Insights team will be helping the general flow of information be passed along. We'll be talking to higher ups with their opinions as well as ensuring that the development of the project looks good. Later on, we'll be offering randomly selected individuals to test out our app in the alpha and beta stages of development.
