Issue with Citations in In-Line Footnotes

I do not know how to describe this and this happens when I cite only certain sources. Can you please take a look at anon version of the issue:

^[When we take off the nuances of the previously delienated framework, the literature that is illustrative of such practices is markedly extensive in range. See: [See: @as2000CME; @Linter2000HNU; @alcock2000EmpiresPerspectivesMuseology].]

When I close the footnote with a bracket, it turns into:

^(Alcock et al., 2000]. When we take off the nuances of the previously delienated framework, the literature that is illustrative of such practices is markedly extensive in range. See: [Assman, 2000; Linter, 2000)

I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I am very new to this workflow. Any help would be very appreciated.

For me it works perfectly well. Could you please detail how you get into this issue? What is the version of Pandoc, what exact command do you use to convert your file?
