Field access with template pipes

I have problems with using pipes and access of object fields in the pandoc templates.

Here’s a sample document:

---
author:
    - name: Foo
    - name: Bar
---

Test

Now in a template, I want to access the last author, which should be possible using the /last pipe. But here, I need to access the name field of that last element, and that fails.

$author/last.name$

Error compiling template "test_template.txt" (line 1, column 13):
unexpected "."
expecting "/", "(", ":", "[" or "$"

Now I could solve this by using a partial:

$author/last:name()$

name.txt:

$it.name$

But I wondered if something like this is (or should be) possible with a single template?
