Can wouter run for Stencil.js

I have a Stencil.js app which is using a deprecated router: stencil-router. The so-called replacement does not work and does not seem to be maintained properly. I would like to replace this router with wouter. On the surface it looks ideal. My line of code is simple:

   return(
      ....
      <Switch>
         <Route path="/" component={AppHome} />
         ... other routes
      </Switch>
   );
}`


When I run this code inside my app-root component. the application does not render and I get a warning and an error in the browser console:

"Warning: Invalid hook call. Hooks can only be called inside of the body of a function component.  .... "
