I recently wanted to implement a plugin so that neogit can directly use codecompanion to generate commit information

I don't know if codeCompanion has such an API now
It's equivalent to a conversation without a UI
It would be even better if it could carry historical context

What you are looking for is prompts with "inline" strategy. Also, there were a number of discussions specifically about generating commit messages, e.g.: #694.

You could call the http.lua file in the same way the strategies do in CodeCompanion. I believe that's how the new codecompanion-history.nvim plugin does it.
