Over 41k, or 22%, of amenity=doctors already use this tag. It would be great to see it implemented in iD.

Hi @diamondarmorsteve, there are 28 presets for doctors, do we need the phone as a suggestive tag in all since it seems the best option to add it in all of them? Please confirm this.

The field is already present as moreFields via https://github.com/openstreetmap/id-tagging-schema/blob/main/data/presets/@templates/contact.json is it not?

I don't see this one in any doctor presets but I can add it as it provides more than phone tag as a suggestion. It is same in the amenity=veterinary_pharmacy I used the "{@templates/poi}""{amenity/pharmacy}"

All those presets use https://github.com/openstreetmap/id-tagging-schema/blob/main/data/presets/%40templates/poi.json#L4 which references https://github.com/openstreetmap/id-tagging-schema/blob/main/data/presets/%40templates/contact.json#L7 references the phone field.
