Reusing, Upcycling and Recycling

The plastics used in the casing should retain structural and chemical integrity for up to 20 years.
After the useful lifespan of internal components has passed, the open source design should make it trivial to upgrade to newer circuit boards, components and sensors, etc., within the existing casing.
Ideally, the plastic casing should be designed with upcycling in mind. Not sure what other uses it could have, but there should be some scope for use in hydroponics
At final end of life, the plastic containers can either be recycled (in the conventional sense) or, alternatively, converted to low grade fuel via Pyrolysis (particularly useful in regions devastated by geopolitics or climate change).
