Ubuntu 12.04, emacs 24.3, 'live' and this pack as of 20130405 doesn't work

Fresh install of pretty much everything but emacs is still black/white (this is inside a terminal).

I know that the pack is loading because I was getting an error before I did the git submodule update.

Any hints?

I think I am just using "vanilla" emacs on a gnome-terminal that is
solarised...
