GUIDE: How to force a PKG software update? [TPM19.1]

The article below is applicable to the following 2019 TV sets:
73x4, 7504, 8204, 8804, 804, 854, 934, 954, 984

Situation

The regular software update procedure could not be followed due to one of the following situations:

  • The TV reboots constantly.
  • The TV does not react.
  • The TV keeps showing the logo.
  • TV has no picture but the LED light is blinking.
  • The software upgrade via USB takes very long (>1 hour).

Answer

The TV’s functionality can be restored via a software update. Please proceed as follows:

1. Download the software

  1. Insert an empty USB flash drive (~8 GB) into a computer.
  2. Format the USB flash drive to FAT or FAT32 (right mouse click >“Format”).
  3. Access the following link: https://app.box.com/s/zp8hrhqrdmfphp9zxoy5x6jseobn3gus
  4. Press the blue “Download” button to download the software onto the PC.
  5. Extract the downloaded ZIP file and copy all files to the root (main) folder of the USB flash drive.

2. Unplug the TV’s power cable and disconnect external devices

  1. While the TV is ON, disconnect the TV’s main power cable.
  2. Unplug all accessories and devices from the TV. This includes a CAM module, if applicable. Disconnecting external devices will avoid possible interferences.

3. Start the forced upgrade procedure

  1. While the TV is OFF insert the USB flash drive into the USB port of the TV. Please use a USB 2.0 (black inside) port. Do not use any of the USB 3.0 ports.
  2. Reconnect the power cable. This will trigger the update to start.
  3. An OSD message “Software upgrade in progress…” will be shown for a few seconds.
  4. Wait approx. 20 minutes for the software to upload onto the TV.
WARNING:
Do not interrupt the process by pressing buttons on the TV or the remote control. The TV will automatically restart after the installation has been successfully finished.

4. Disconnect the USB flash drive from the TV

When the TV has booted up to normal TV mode again, remove the USB drive from the TV’s USB port and delete the upgrade files.

5. Reinstall the TV

Press the “Settings/Menu” button on the remote control, scroll down and select: [Frequent settings]* > [All Settings] > [General Settings] > [Reinstall TV] and press “OK” on the remote control.

*Only for some models

NOTE:
Reinstalling the TV will delete all of the TV settings/HDD recordings and start the first installation process.
