How to have a multiple file structure?

I mainly use LaTex for note taking, so having multiple folders and directories does not work well with me, is there a way to have multiple tex files in the same project directory and have them build one at a time?
I tried putting another file into the inputs field but got the error

error: TOML parse error at line 10, column 1

10 | inputs = ["index.tex", "another.tex"]
   | ^^^^^^
unknown field `inputs`, expected one of `name`, `type`, `tex_format`, `preamble`, `index`, `postamble`, `shell_escape`, `shell_escape_cwd`

The last release (Feb 5, 2024) hasn't yet included this feature, but the documentation is already updated to reflect changes in the codebase. Cf. Issue #1225.
