Pie Chart Ordering

Hi everyone,

In a discussion a question came up and I could not find an finite answer to this yet so I am asking you here. Is there a possibility to rearrange or set a specific order for the segments when editing/creating a pie chart visualization?

Hi @tboeni,

Thanks for reaching out! Visualize offers several ways to sort the segments of any chart type (e.g. automatically [based on identifiers and positions of dimension values] or by label). Currently there's no way to sort the segments manually – let me know if this helps :)

Thank you for the quick answer!
In this case I seem that I cannot find the sorting option. Could that be the case that there is for the segmented dimension is no value attached (it is an ordinal scale)

@tboeni thanks for sharing an example! I took a closer look and in fact, Visualize only allows sorting the segment for nominal and geographical dimensions – and in this case, the Gefährdungsstatus dimension is an ordinal dimension.

Technically we could easily enable custom sorting also for ordinal dimensions, but I believe it was introduced for a reason a long time ago, so might be good to clarify internally first if this is a desired behavior.
